I would like to comment on the Remote Access blog on Blogging VS writing. This blog made me think about the uses of blogs and how different perspectives can change what a person will write in a blog. Take Kate whose parents must be teaching her the proper way to use the internet and become aware of the internet dangers since she is worried about who will read her blogs. She won’t be as opened minded about blogging as Shyla or Michael because they are looking at it differently. Shyla looks at it like a place to speak her mind and have a voice while Michael feels that this tool will be great to share new ideas and talk with people and learn with people around the world. This is one thing that I will need to be addressed once I begin to use blogging.
Now, the article also mentioned the use of video and pictures to make their point or to support their written text. I didn’t even think about it in those terms, but that makes me look at a web page that you can post for others to link to. This would be great for all students to create these blogger pages with videos, pictures, text, podcasts, links, and general information to prove that they know what they are talking about. For example a student could blog about the Pythagorean Theorem and in their blog they could link to another site that shows you how to do the pythagorean theorem, while they created a movie and podcast that they can also use to help explain what it is. They say the best way to learn something is to teach it. If they are doing something like a podcast or movie, they won’t realize they are teaching and they may even have fun doing it.
The blogging used to be the last thing on my mind to learning about, but I feel that it is worth learning about in order to give the students something different to do in class. This will also be an excellent way for the students to get a writing assignment in a math class. I think I will even have them do a writing assignment about “Blogging VS writing”. This may even get them to write something without complaining about it!! This is Great. If anyone nows how to upload files and do all that great stuff on a blogger let me know. I have learned so much this past week I can’t remember where I seen what. I thought I seen somewhere you could even speak into the blogger instead of typing (modifications)!! I may even get the courage up one day to click on all the links above that say b-quote, img, ul,ol,li,code,more, lookup, close tags.
