Assessing a Learner

October 28, 2007 · 1 Comment

The only way to assess someone that is truly learning is to have them show you what they have learned in a cumulating project. I believe I heard that somewhere before. Oh yea, that is what we have to do for this class. Since we have been guided during this class as a learner, I felt that our final project is a perfect was to assess true learners.

My thought too…the only problem I see is that time usually works against us….and being able to spend the needed one on one time with students along the way can be a problem for discipline as well. Then I really worry about the students who just can’t do it…..how do we bring them along. I went to a PD a few years ago about “Exit Exhibitions” where senior had to do a culminating project and present it to the public, much like a dissertation defense…and all the time I am asking myself how many students I have that could…or would…do that? It is an interesting prospect though.
