Tornado in Muhlenberg

February 8, 2008 · 3 Comments

I haven’t been able to get online since Tuesday when the F3 tornado hit my city.  I was lucky and don’t live on that side of Greenville where the tornado went through, but my sister only lived a block away.  We had 3 people die and 130 homes destroyed.  Lots of people that I know can’t go back to their homes.  It is different when you hear it on the news then when you live it.  When you know most of the people without homes and can drive 5 miles down the road and see the destruction, you realize that “it can happen to you”.  We lost power for 3 days and of course the temperature had to drop.  Luckily we had a wood burner insert put in during the summer just in case we needed auxiliary heat.  I am so glad we did and recommend with the world the way it is, that everyone begin to think about different self sufficient ways to heat your home.  My husband is a Sherriff deputy and worked the whole time only sleeping 3 hours Wednesday morning before going back to help.  He got home at 9:30 Wednesday night and went back out 8 to 8 Thursday.  They are on 12 hours shifts until they aren’t needed anymore.  Our schools have been out for the three days, but we are going to be back on Monday.  The tornado took out part of the roof at the North HIgh school or we probably would have been back today.  Well, this is the first I have been online and just thought I would let you know what is going on in the county.   I hope everyone else weathered the storms well.  Now on the see what all I missed in class work.
