I haven’t been able to get online since Tuesday when the F3 tornado hit my city. I was lucky and don’t live on that side of Greenville where the tornado went through, but my sister only lived a block away. We had 3 people die and 130 homes destroyed. Lots of people that I know can’t go back to their homes. It is different when you hear it on the news then when you live it. When you know most of the people without homes and can drive 5 miles down the road and see the destruction, you realize that “it can happen to you”. We lost power for 3 days and of course the temperature had to drop. Luckily we had a wood burner insert put in during the summer just in case we needed auxiliary heat. I am so glad we did and recommend with the world the way it is, that everyone begin to think about different self sufficient ways to heat your home. My husband is a Sherriff deputy and worked the whole time only sleeping 3 hours Wednesday morning before going back to help. He got home at 9:30 Wednesday night and went back out 8 to 8 Thursday. They are on 12 hours shifts until they aren’t needed anymore. Our schools have been out for the three days, but we are going to be back on Monday. The tornado took out part of the roof at the North HIgh school or we probably would have been back today. Well, this is the first I have been online and just thought I would let you know what is going on in the county. I hope everyone else weathered the storms well. Now on the see what all I missed in class work.

I’m glad things are ok for you. It seems weird, but tornadoes seem to be occurring in Kentucky much more frequently than they used too…may it is just better weather detection and spotting….but growing up I hardly ever heard mention of tornadoes in Kentucky. While we’ve never had a confirmed one in Magoffin County, they do seem to be happening closer and closer. If one ever hit my little town, we would never recover from it! Take care.

When I first moved to Kentucky, I thought, yeah, no more tornados, or at least not as many. Now almost 10 years after moving here from Texas, when someone says something about the weather, I say “Kentucky weather is just like Texas weather…just wait a minute it’ll change.” Best wishes to you and your family, school, and community. Let us know if there is anyway the rest of us can help.
