Danah Boyd’s interview

February 19, 2008 · 2 Comments

I love the interview.  Danah seems like a very informed and compassionate person.  She is right about the facebook and myspace.  she even mentioned what we have discussed about educating students how to use the technology, not to ban them from it.  I don’t understand why she was talking about it over drinks though?  That was a little confusing to me.   Anyways, great interview and great information.

I think the most important thing that she said was that students are using those social networking sites to hang out with people they already know–not to meet strangers! This is what schools and libraries need to realize.

Your right, most of the time they are just hanging out with their friends online, because like she said we don’t allow our children out of our site anymore. As long as parents are actively involved in what their child is doing online, there shouldn’t be any problems. Asking question and checking on your child is what a parent is supposed to do.
